i have 160gb atv connected wireless, works fine except fact syncs incredibly slow , seems lose network connection no reason. i've got 802.11.g+n network i'm guessing connects network via n (not can tell, router doesn't devices connected as). considering how slow itunes sync thing have thought it's running 802.11b...
i've worked out, , may have done sums wrong here - i'm not mathematician stretch of imagination - if "only" getting 20mbps throughput appletv (which should getting @ least), should take on half hour sync 5 gigs, not 2 hours + takes. again assuming did sums right time takes currently, actual connection rate must around 5mbps, quite frankly sucks wireless g network...
know fact have mixed n+g network means speeds naturally going less 1 expect n-only network (or i've read anyway), 20mbps pretty reasonable have thought (if not more reasonable),especially seeing router situated ten foot away atv. there wall inbetween them though but, wall doesn't seem prevent ps3, xbox 360, wii or powerbook connecting fine full signal. why atv not playing nice?
thing confuses me syncing film takes 2+ hours do, streaming doesn't! if stream 5gb, 1-hour movie atv can watch whole way through without buffering, jumping or skipping, plays it's been synced. if can stream videos ok thing syncing takes long; mean hdd complete crap?
prior router have now, billion 7800n, had 3com router, worked fine until changed internet providers , became problem. capable of 802.11g, atv had same slow sync issue 1 well. had hoped when upgraded 802.11n router "finally" going able sync movies , not atv without having wait hours catch up. oh how wrong was.
add disconnections atv suffers didn't seem occur old router, when had old router, atv in different room directly below had router (which upstairs @ time). put slow sync down that, seems having router ten foot away , on same level 1 wall between them still has problems.
i'm stumped, , short of accepting have been doing , considering quirk of atv i'm wondering if has ideas. i've searched on issue , seems solution many people have come to... airport extreme router. i'm not doing. it's shame there's bloody great wall in way really, otherwise i'd have avoided whole problem , use ethernet connection.![]()
i looked @ specs of "new" router , cannot find anywhere it's dual-band router, assume not. means if have 802.11g device(s) connected it, connected wireless interfaces run @ speed regardless of whether support 802.11n or not.
have few options. use old router 802.11g , new router 802.11n exclusively disabling 802.11g on new router. there guides on how online. myself.
quick validation, turn off 802.11g (ie. enable 802.11n only) on new router , restart apple tv.
airport extreme solve issue because dual-band.
hardwiring best...
also, not expect published speeds wireless protocols. there's huge difference between theoretical , actual speed, if you're 10 feet away router.
