File sharing from external hd on mac mini to windows 7

so want use mini media hub home. of stuff on ntfs formatted external hard drive plugged in mini. added shared folders list in file sharing menu in system preferences. when try access windows machine can see along other shared folders, error when try open it. use drive backup time machine , noticed can access time machine partition windows machine though can't access rest of it. i'm hoping wont have re-format whole drive mac os extended use if know if/how can, brother out. thanks.
