former senator rick santorum (r-pa.) has suggested president obama has plan keep gas prices high in order keep americans driving less , result, limit carbon dioxide emissions.

now, santorum claiming high gas prices caused 2008 economic downturn.

reports buzzfeed’s zeke miller lansing, mich.:

“we went recession in 2008 because of gasoline prices,” santorum told packed hotel ballroom of supporters. “the bubble burst in housing because people couldn’t pay mortgages because of $4 gallon gasoline,” added.

santorum accused obama of advocating higher gas prices protect environment.

people couldn't buy gas couldn't drive work , lost jobs because couldn't make it. couldn't make house payments because lost jobs , caused housing crisis ?
