Recent applications freeze

hi, i'm not sure has happened (or i've done) new app download (google chrome, portrait professional, earth desk) opens , freezes - spinning beach ball. have been added firewall still no luck. blamed problem on chrome, since next 2 apps i've added same thing, i'm starting think may fault imac. i'm running latest version of lion. in advance.
