edit: turns out noise wasn't fans @ all... it's 7200rpm hdd. see post on second page more info this. has else newer 2010/2011 mbp noticed how loud hdd in quiet environments? thanks!
hello!
first mac computer, purchased few days ago. it's macbook pro 13" 2.8 ghz i7 processor.
love how it's running far, though have 1 concern: downloaded istat widget , i've noticed fan running (about 2000rpm). moment start computer, if i'm not doing , temp around 39-45c.... normal?
also, when it's @ 2000rpm, can hear fan. it's not loud per say, it's noticeable in quiet room. , since it's running time, can hear unless i'm in noisy room.
should fan running time @ 2000rpm? when virtual no programs running? , if so, 2000rpm typically audible? have pretty hearing. if normal, it's i'll have used to.
last question: last night when watching netflix video, temp raised 78c, fans kicked 3000rpm, , temperature stayed pretty steady @ 73-75c. don't know "good" cpu temps -- high of temperature normal streaming videos?
sorry questions... love computer far , hope stuff normal! thanks!!!
yes, temps quite normal, fan speed. mac not overheating. intel processors used in macs designed automatically shut down prevent damage if overheat (around 100c/212f - 105c/221f, depending on processor). istat pro give accurate readings of temps , fan speeds, among other things.
unless there rare defect in mac, temps within normal operating range, considering workload being put on it. websites flash content, games , other multimedia apps put higher demand on cpu/gpu, generating more heat. normal. if you're putting high demands on system, such gaming or other multimedia tasks, expect temps rise , fans spin accordingly. it's mac doing job maintain temps within normal range.
quite normal mac become extremely hot touch during intensive operations. aluminum body transfers heat more other materials used in computer casings, feel heat more. doesn't indicate it's overheating , not harm computer hot touch.
fans on when mac on, spinning @ minimum of 2000 rpm (for mbps) or 1800 rpm (for mbas, mbs , minis). imacs have 3 fans minimum speeds in 800-1200 range. spin faster needed keep temps @ safe level. if they're spinning without increased heat, try resetting smc. (pram/nvram has nothing these issues, resetting not help.)
intake , exhaust vents in of computer near hinge on mac notebooks. imac vent slot on near top of computer. make sure vents remain unblocked allow computer perform @ best.
