need help external dvd on imac

hi have imac g3 mac os 10.4.11 , trying use amacom external dvd player watch dvds, when switch on nothing happens. has red light on top, not sure if should stay red or not. tried putting dvd , cd in still nothing happens, please.

 

it doesn't show in finder or disk utility when disk inserted?
