my macbook pro stolen recently. luckily before backed of files onto usb external hard drive time machine, , bought new macbook air. how restore of old macbook pro settings usb hard drive onto new macbook air? tried using migration assistant migration assistant won't detect external hard drive time machine backup. i've tried right clicking on time machine in dock , clicking "browse other time machine disks" still won't detect external hard drive time machine backup. can see old username , folders (ex. desktop, applications, downloads, library, etc.) have red thing next them , when click them says "you don't have permission access content". old macbook stolen don't know how grant permisions me access it. best way load old settings usb hard drive onto new macbook air?
most files need permissions changing; old username different new 1 per chance? being unix hax0r trade option this:
sudo chown -r $user /volumes/nameofyourusbdevice
terminal should good. can info finder , change permissions there aswell.
