hey guys
heres deal. promoted mac man since showed interest in cleaning mess of macs had floating around.
bought 14 new imacs school.
, upgrading our existing 20 lion.
have 34 macs running lion.
measly 1200 or pcs have in school.
school vastly windows based , users in school through active directory
bought mac mini lion server handle macs. , have bound active directory.
have following questions.
1. can log on using client imac once create admin account , bind machine active directory. supposed doing that? or supposed connect server , let server rest? tried couldn't passed log in screen active directory user credentials.
2. if i've done right, , have bind each machine active directory how auto mount network drives on logon? each user should have own home drive on the network, share drives specific user.
when log on myself see 0 share drives , no home drive.
logging on windows machine maps these drives automatically.
how do on mac? per user.
3. have web proxy requires credentials access web.
can put these in manually , on web, requires me saving username , password in proxy settings.
else need authenticate on logon. user in school can logon , uses credentials through proxy.
4. haven't installed apple remote desktop yet, answers in there? or desk type solutions. , want install on server or own office mac? or 1 purchase let me put on both??
sorry such in depth questions.
please help.
1. yes, admin account first, system pref's bind ad
2. go profile manager , select mount in 'login items' under accounts. user groups , auto load on log in. can drag actual mount point server desktop gui box address right.
3. not sure this, when @ school had our own proxy u/n , password. work around, there must way of having auto added in. go profile manager....
4. apple remote desktop unlimited use , best thing ever! remote install best thing when loading new comps, monitoring systems etc.. investment low low price. seeing pesky students not working, or downloading random stuff.
sorry rushed answers - let me know if brief / want more! on way work...or @ least should be!
