Does resetting Safari help w speed

hi,
safari on mbp w osx 10.7.2 dog. slow, lots of beach balls.
@ first thought ram. installed firefox , runs quickly.
safari , love use it, frustration got me.
i've been using firefox week w/o complaints @ all.
friend mentioned "resetting" safari.
might "really" improve safari speed??
