Running Windows 8 on USB for a MacBook with dead HDD

if install w8 on 32gb usb, boot w8 dead white mb? or need somehow install bootcamp drives on usb stick too? (which don't know how do) or boot mac os usb stick? (is 32gb enough? 16gb?)

need have partition reserved os only?

 

probably, if hdd thing, kaputt/dead in mb, know, usb flash memory thumb drives have abysmal read , write speed (5 20 mb/s), external usb hdd or firewire 400 hdd or new internal hdd better.
