macbook pro 1278 motherboard

hello, have macbook pro model#1278. laptop got wet , i've been told need new motherboard. price replace $750.00. when plugged in computer turns on. advice on wether fix or not. don't understand why turns on when plugged in , not when it's not plugged in.
