Is it me or is this normal behavior...MacBook loaded

ok coming dell xps loaded specs - i7, ssd, loaded graphics, etc used multi-tasking bliss - have loaded macbook i7, 1gb graphics, etc (loaded) , when multi-task (4-5 apps open) plus watch videos vlc or mplayer, mac crawls/freezes....is normal expected behavior?

thinking of upgrading 512gb ssd hoping things along.

have mac power user want make sure ok , expected $4000 laptop purchase!!

have @ activity monitor (applications / utilities /) , select all processes , sort cpu see culprit may be.
check "system memory" tab see "page ins:", "page outs:" , "swap used:" are.
