Imac Slow

hello,

after few years of hounding, talked inlaws switching pc mac. bought 27 inch i5. got 4 gig's of ram. ordered 8 has not come in mail yet.

issue imac slow. after told them how sweet machine running , not fast. imported 15,000 photos iphoto , choppy. when scrolling through progam stops , unresponsive. internet slow too. did speed test , running @ 15 mbps.

so, question is, ram issue? or deal?

launch activity monitor , change "my processes" @ top "all processes", click on cpu column heading once or twice, arrow points downward (highest values on top). also, click on system memory tab @ bottom. take screen shot, scroll down see rest of list, take screen shot , post them.

if drive active or cpu utilization high (possibly increased temps , fan speed) when you're not running major apps, can check see if spotlight indexing looking @ menu bar icon:

(indexing) (pulsing dot)​

when it's indexing, may see increased cpu , ram usage mds , mdworker processes in activity monitor.
