error -54 when syncing iphone 3gs in itunes

after setting new itunes library on external hard drive, can sync images on iphone 3gs, error -54 message.

when hook phone via usb hub, error -54 message saying unknown error occurred & cannot sync phone.

goes on sync images anyway, & itunes see phone, shows @ left side panel.

have phone set micro usb adapter plugged it's connector @ bottom, & micro usb cord coming it.

plugged usb hub, on laptop shortage of usb ports.

these causing problem? know have few layers direct connection, have micro usb adapter on phone, protect original apple connector dust & wear, being plugged & unplugged time when leave home. keep phone plugged ac when @ home.
