Cannot empty external HD's Trash - kernel panicking

i having trouble removing files external hd's .trashes folder (they show in trash can when hd plugged in)

26 files "alias" files, , 0 kb. if try empty trash normally, kernel panic , have restart computer. if try secure empty trash, error code -36 data in "" can't read or written.

have tried delete files in terminal command:
sumo rm -rv /volumes/alexei\'s\ hd/.trashes/ "input/output error" each file.

have tried -rf , -rfv in place of -rv (though confess not understand difference), , still input/output errors each file.

appreciated

 

i having exact same problem ... it's driving me nuts!
