address book & panel question?

i new mac, please bear me. have done searches , read tips not find answer question= is
1. need edit address panel. somehow several addresses showing twice. also, of names showing screen names instead of person's real name.
2. don't understand address book , its' purpose. not names listed. 2 book , panel related?

in advance might can give me. need mail program organized.
