Permissions on External Hard Drive

this need explaining.

have imac. using primary computer until power surge played hookie power supply unit, , imac started shutting down randomly.

i've ordered new power supply, far it's been month , still no sign.

so, i've extracted hard drive , plugged external reader can use macbook access data.

other day able navigate old lightroom library , access it, lightroom libraries in prohibited folder - permissions blocking access.

how did manage other day?

, if prohibited, how can access folders now?

solved myself

noob

don't know why access files last week not today, maybe enlighten on that?

anyway, fix this:

external hard drive had permissions written on imac when internal drive. plugged macbook external drive os x has option adhere pre-written ownership or not.

* clicked on hard drive on desktop , pressed cmd-i info.

* down bottom (os x 10.7) sharing , permissions section - if it's greyed out click padlock , enter password unlock it.

* either check "ignore ownership on volume" if want retain permissions on drive - give access keep permissions written

* or, did because don't need permissions, changed permissions read & write, , clicked gear icon , chose "apply enclosed items..." remove permissions folders on drive.

simple, really.
