both in our forums , apple's discussions, there have been observations , complaints new ipad runs warmer previous generation. phenomenon noticed in techcrunch's review of new ipad said:
to investigate further, tweakers.net (via engadget) took thermal images infrared camera of both ipad 2 , new ipad. after running glbenchmark 5 minutes, hottest point measured.

hottest point on new ipad lower right corner measured temperature of 33.6° c (or 92.5° f). ipad 2, meanwhile, topped out @ 28.3° c (or 82.9° f). difference between 2 5° c (or ~10° f).

there seems mix of responses end users, not noticing warmth @ all, while others claim gets uncomfortably hot handle. seems use of heavy gpu apps such games may factor. added heat seems not affect functionality of new ipad.

update: apple released statement loop heat complaints.
