Need help removing applications

i downloaded copy of xcode try out. when went uninstall dropped in trash , said couldn't remove because still in use. opened activity monitor , wasn't running , when viewed has no version. can't opened because damaged or incomplete. instruments same way after used terminal command remove xcode (.sudo /developer/library/uninstall-devtools –mode=all)
i'm running lion if helps.
can rid of these 2 pesky apps?
