More questions about importing .mts into iMovie/FCP

i've installed clipwrap rewrap .mts files quicktime, wondering if it's possible copy .mts files onto camera , import them camera? if either way more preferable other, , take less storage space?

lot of old video footage 1080 interlaced, possible convert 1080 progressive plays better on mac? there players out there mac can play interlaced footage well?
