Has my battery gone out or is it my charger?

hi

okay couple of weeks ago macbook pro stopped charging. tried turning off , letting battery die , tried charge it, nothing happened. understand, macbook pro able run te charger in , no battery. true? have old macbook pro isn't unibody , battery removable. if suppposed run without charger , no battery must charger has given out.
made appointment apple store take @ it. try charge @ it?
using 85 watt charger 60 watt battery, have messed up?
think it's battery or charger?

when touch led button on battery shows single blinking led
led on charger isn't working, glows faint green barely noticeable.
appreciated

edit* think 08, keyboard isn't black if helps. sorry i'm not sure of exact model...

the faint green light suggests adapter isn't connected. examine port make sure don't have debris , if see something, take brush , run along pins. inspect pins on adapter , make sure can see 5. there should single small pin 2 larger ones either side. if pushed in, or recessed, try releasing stuck one. if not see stuck pin or unable unstick it, time seek replacement adapter. if have replaced through service provider, make sure test computer before leave.
