dvd burning

hi everyone
can help. first of i'm novice mac user. bought daughter macbook pro christmas. have produce dvd evidence exam work after tacking video footage on handy cam , finding out have convert files mac can @ them produced first imovie project. in share movie says share idvd nothing seems happen after that. burned dvd movies , not play on other player. must in wrong format. need? don't have prob on windows pc. dave.
ps please excuse if prob has been discussed before.
