Big files swallowing hard drive


i installed lion 10.7.2 on imac in jan 2012 , since capacity of hdd has been going down without logical reasons. since not portable mac problem not backing automatically while not connected time machine, applied clean mac gave me 4 gb more.
searching among hidden files found problem:
"private " folder 420gb, in log folder load of 420gb , in "kernel.log.0" 376gb, "kernel.log.1" 19.31 , "kernel.log.4" 24.12gb, among other many files.
do? first time imac on lion, nothing wrong using leopard or snow leopard before.

i not recommend cleanmymac, based on number of complaints have been posted in forum , elsewhere. example: cleanmymac cleaned much. recommend uninstall it.
it sounds may have recurring error that's filling log files. use console.app view log files determine source of log entries may be. after you've resolved that, it's safe delete log files.
