IOS 5 update erased all my apps" content

a mac tech helping me ipad 2 , had retore (i have backed material on ipad previously). said needed update well. update erased material had saved on apps noteshelf, msecure, alarm clocks etc. yes, every single one. material had backed gone. has happend others?

 

if backed before did restore/update restore backup , you're content returned.
