CD Drive - media hanging drive

purchased refurb imac 27" month ago, it's first mac , i'm thrilled it.

i've come across issue reading old cds had lying around. contain photos or movie files , created pc replaced mac.

can read other media mac (dvds, cds) there handful of these cds when installed, not read or recognized optical drive , spin. of course won't eject either .. fortunately came across article had several tricks removing stuck media. after trying terminal prompt commands , several other tricks, booted while holding option down , able eject boot screen.

thing can think of may not have closed out session after copying files pc. cause mac drive hang ? i'm happy blame media , not drive, annoying there not hardware override eject disk, rather doing forced shut down , restart.

that's not expected behavior @ all. computer under warranty, take apple , have them @ it. replace optical drive, , free.
