Macbook Pro (mid-2010) Crashing

hi all,

been surfing these forums while now, they've been helpful can't seem work out wrong computer. can help.

specs:

model name: macbook pro
model identifier: macbookpro6,2
os: os x 10.6.8
processor name: intel core i7
processor speed: 2.66 ghz
memory: 4 gb

problem:

unpredictable crashing during normal use forcing me hold down power button reset , reboot. no obvious links between crashes, using program @ time.

crashes occur in 3 different ways:

1) of time computer freezes, mouse wont work , keyboard goes dead. screen remain locked until hard reset. accompanied hd light flashing 3 times repeatedly. computer gradually heats if dont turn off.

2) gray screen of death. 'please shut down' screen comes up.

3) crazy static/white noise patterns dance on screen, computer must hard reset.

crashes accompanied loud screeching noise, not. happens @ irregular intervals enough make computer unusable.

twice computer has been in bag on standby , when ive taken out has crashed , heated hot temperatures.

when reboot computer turns on fine (though 3 beeps of death thing first time around).

i've done try , fix it:

found hard drive corrupted , fixed it/ reset permissions using osx disk.

reinstalled osx using disk.

ran basic diagnostics on startup disk, no problems found.

brought apple retailer bought it, had hardware diagnostics run, came nothing.

brought retailed ran full diagnostics, including manual hardware diagnostics, nothing found , couldnt replicate problem.

brought home today , within half hour crashed (freeze crash).

have ran out of options, in final year of collage need sorted asap. figured logic board if diagnostics showed nothing dont know think. please if can i'd appreciate it.

(also living in europe, consumer law states mandatory 2 year warranty on computers, overruling apple's 1 year warranty. please check if wish act on it.)

thanks,

g.

based on problems, first guess corrupt ram module. don't trust apple's hardware diagnostic tool, , i'm not sure trust other companies test ram properly, either. thorough ram test should take several hours, , if have lot of ram (6+ gb), closer entire day (if not entire day).

can test free. use memtest86+. download it, burn cd, , when can spare 6-12 hours, boot off of it. (i run on night.) not able use computer while tests running. tests run on own. leave alone, , try make sure it's not sitting in sun or near heat source, computer become warm. i'd suggest letting program run through tests 3 times. seeing 1 error pop doesn't mean anything; if see repeated errors across tests, have faulty ram module. assuming have 2 ram modules, can remove 1 , test each 1 individually see problem is. problems weird , occur when modules paired together, or when modules in particular ram slot (and switching slots makes problem go away). if have faulty module, remove and/or replace , problems disappear.

other possibility, based on third symptom described, sort of graphic card failure. i'm not sure graphic failure cause rest of you've described, though.
