i'm going off uni fall , i'm trying decide computer situation. have 24" imac has treated me past 3 years know i'm going need more portable next year. i've been using lot film making , render times killer time speed bump. how desk right , plan take of stuff me next year. have 2 fw800 1tb scratch drives, 2.1 speaker system, external monitor, iphone dock, , 2 printers hooked right now. i'm planning on installing windows 7 allow me play occasional game , run engineering software few years down road.
in mind thought best bet 15" macbook pro 2.4ghz i7 model high res display , 128gb ssd, upgrade 8gb of ram , install 1tb drive in optibay myself. purchase thunderbolt display a) high resolution (i need lots of screen real estate) , b) thunderbolt connectivity. love idea of coming class , being able plug in power , thunderbolt cable , having access of hard drives , peripherals. plus because of built in magsafe can keep other magsafe in backpack. of these options total around $3700 including apple care screen , mbp.
realized price spend on of that, afford i7 27" imac upgraded video card (i'd upgrade myself 16gb of ram) , ipad. bit more power way i'm not sure how work out. spend of time @ desk , use ipad @ school , other places. think manage imac + ipad if stay around campus i'm worried when go home weekend once or twice month , around holidays. i'd rather not away computer long , lugging behemoth imac around doesn't sound fun. option around $2400 total since have ipad.
should do? on 1 hand mbp nice because portable , kind of miss being able sit on couch , on computer worth money similar desktop setup? (i able carry on tbd next mac however, wish current imac) on other, i'd save lot of money imac , more power. money important plan keep computer way through uni i'm willing invest in best option me.
-thanks
(*** sparknotes**** should mbp , tbd university or save money , go imac + ipad?)
