Selling iPad, do I have to worry about it still receiving iMessages after wiping it?

i'm selling ipad. remember reading iphone kept receiving imessages after being turned off, or that, i've signed out of imessage imessage section in settings, make sure it'll stop receiving imessages? i'm going format well.
