apologies if pretty straight-forward question, i'm little unsure.
got macbook pro , i've been running fcp x on it. rendering operations (like colour grading , such) fan comes on , gets pretty loud - little loud it, if ask me.
so, i've surmised i'm in need of ram. macbook pro tells me has 4gb ram, possible 8gb. here's question: when purchase ram, purchase 4gb - need 4gb before i'm @ max capacity. or, these things in standalone kits , i'd have pull trigger on 8gb ram kit?
whilst i've got ear - noise normal when rendering on fcp? i'm brand new mac user, can't judge it, sounds way loud me (especially considering new machine).
also, doing right thing tricking baby out more ram, or barking wrong tree. it's 15" feb. 2011 , new. video editing tasks aforementioned rendering, ram i'm looking for, or purely processor issue?
tasks on fcp use ram/processor power? imagine it's rendering task of sort? i've read editing in 720p - best bet? there way turn off auto rendering instances?
, last question: recommendation on "scratch disk" mac. going seagate standard hdd, told i'm need 7200 rpm type.
anyway, apologise barrage of questions.
appreciated,
matt
ram won't have affect on temps , fan speed when rendering, cpu/gpu intensive processes.
use istat pro accurate readings of temperatures , fan speeds. yes, it's normal temps rise , fan speed increase during cpu/gpu intensive processes gaming , multimedia apps.
see above.
determine if can benefit more ram, launch activity monitor , click system memory tab @ bottom check page outs. page outs cumulative since last restart, best way check restart computer , track page outs under normal workload (the apps, browser pages , documents have open). if page outs significant (say 1gb or more) under normal use, may benefit more ram. if page outs 0 or low during normal use, won't see performance improvement adding ram.
