hi, have mid 2009 13" macbook , couple of months ago hdd died. tried repairing disk utility unable fix it, , according error code obtained su/verbose mode diagnosed faulty contact on drive.
i've got round replacing hdd on last couple of weeks 500gb toshiba (sorry, don't have model in front of me) confirmed compatible, having trouble restoring.
mb came 0sx 10.5.7 pre installed, have been unable find installation disc. have 10.6 installation disc, won't let me fresh install allow me access utilities etc. have 10.5.4 disc, when attempted boot brings question mark icon.
did have time machine on external drive, have attempted restore new drive, after tells me restore successful , going restart drive, restarts won't boot.
when run repair disk in disk utility says volume appears ok, options verify/repair disc permissions greyed out. mb has ever had 1 account mine , have never altered permissions. stop recognising drive boot device?
if not, there way of setting new drive boot device using terminal? or restore incomplete because not original instatllation disc?
have had multiple attempts @ restoring/installing , on 1 disk utility told me not bless drive. prevent booting? , if there way bless using terminal?
have spent on week trawling forums , internet searches try , diagnose problem myself, , tried of more obvious suggestions such resetting pram/nvram, sorry if asked question, i'm pulling hair out.
have old hdd in caddy have access if there can use clone etc make simpler? assuming disk repair/back software such disk warrior/carboncopy require access booted device?
have access older mb running tiger if of help.
if there more information can provide let me know. appreciated!![]()
boot sl disk , go in disk utility. verify disk intend boot formatted hfs+ "guid partition scheme". if that's not case, partition disk on again , time go options , pick "guid partition scheme".
there matter of getting os x onto disk. i've never tried using sl dvd install on empty disk last time found myself wiped disk, applecare guy insisted dig original disk install os onto blank disk. if case, 1 obvious solution order replacement restore disk mac apple. @ point occurs me take time make dmg images of old os disks came our macs in case should ever need them. no wait. we're running lion , know lion usb stick can install blank disk.
