Does the iPad 3 really need to go 2048x1536?

i believe ipad 3 have higher resolution screen ipad 2. main argument against screen resolution increasing 2048x1536 old apps won't scale properly. i'm wondering why such issue?

why should apple care? if old apps wont scale properly, leave couple rows of black pixels on either top or sides of old apps. if old app doesn't match new screen resolution perfectly, leave empty space there. no different when try run iphone app in 2x mode on ipad. developers update apps, or risk getting left behind. don't have single non-retina app on iphone because app wasn't updated, replaced 1 was. think people same ipad apps. , cares if empty space looks bad? apps non-retina graphics. developers can update graphics , support new resolution in 1 move.

understand wouldn't ideal developers, because have code 2 different resolutions aren't 100% scalable, unlike if ipad 3 double resolution. again, talking few pixels here , there on edges - developers code endless android resolutions, ask them 2 ipad? considering in couple years, they'll have code 1 ipad 2 becomes obsolete , they're writing apps high-resolution ipads. whatever resolution apple makes ipad 3, can sure that'll resolution of many generations of ipads come.

know many apple doesn't want alienate developers didn't stop them not putting optical drive on macbook airs, or stop them not using usb ports on iphones , ipads. if developers want code 1 resolution, can decision (and can take own risk on losing profits).

in fact, argument makes sense me makes sense. there must technical aspect resolution i'm missing. tell me i've gone astray.

edit: write because wonder whether resolution high good. wonder how movies on device resolution high.

yes 2048
