Buying Iphone 4S to be used in another country

hi guys. im brazil going nyc soon. i'd buy new iphone 4s. let me know if there definitive unlocking process or people still unlocking via turbo sim card,etc..
mean, need know if have pay double price buy unlocked apple or if can buy normal 1 , unlock .

but, works on 5.0 or 5.01 current version 5.1 not supported.

buy factory unlocked version, more expensive, no hassle , resale value.
