trying to battle myriad "well, if don't have triple redundant raid cards, run monitors, , absolutely, positively *need* 2 optical drives, can't possibly 'pro'" comments on main rumors page's threads on mac pro.
- users of mac pro...what use mac pro for? parts of box essential do?
---
i'll go first
public health research - statistical modeling , mathematical simulations mostly. why did buy pro?
- need memory, lots of it. if had cash, i'd stuff thing full of 16 gb chips.
- decent video card occasional video game.
- expansion bays hard drives - i've got boot drive , data drive cloned internal drives keep me , running if fails.
- lots, , lots, of screen real estate plots, code , data sets @ same time.
went single cpu model though. while can stuff benefits more cores, easier offload onto cluster. stuff inescapably serial, went speedy quad-core when bought it.
corporate video production, feature-length movies, graphic design, photography, , entertainment.
raid card connects 8-bay tower of 8 wd 2tb re-4 disks in raid6 12tb, internal bays used, , odd bays have stock dvd in top, lg bd-r in bottom. single 6-core , 32gb of ram perfect needs. esata/usb3 pci card allows fast external backups via voyager q dock. 2 monitors: 30" acd , cheap dell.
