My external hardrive thinks its full.

hi have tried find solution of problem far have been regarding 'emptying trash' have done.
filled external seagate 500gb hardrive movies - because friend wanted me give music, freed space on hardrive moving 110gb worth of films on mac internal hd.

anyway, come point i'm trying put these films on ext hd - won't let me put them on.

when right-click ext harddirve on finder , press info says 'capacity 499.76 - available 100.56bg- used 399.206g' when try , move movie file onto ext hd - (yes have tried doing 1 file @ time) - saying there not enough free space.

i've tried 'emptying trash' , 'secure empty trash' - not sure do!

please help!

 

to find out, hard drive capacity being used, if falsely reported finder, can use following free applications:

• diskinventory x
• omnidisksweeper
• jdisk report
• grandperspective

maybe try combination of several, if still can't find "missing" capacity.

have checked finder > select external hdd >> info >>> format and sharing & permissions yet?
