Hard drive won't boot, how long does Diskwarrior take?

hi all,

purchased new 750gb hard drive apple store , fitted myself. used time machine restore data previous hard drive. worked fine, wasn't able up, stuck after time , throw , error message. ignored few weeks , backed important files using dropbox.

however, started troubleshooting issue more thoroughly , tried use carbon clone copy create clone of hard drive. this, too, threw error message , seemed point towards specific file. continue, make little no progress.

1 time when trying clone drive, froze computer. away this, held power button power down computer. after this, hard drive wouldn't mount. when inserted , booted os x dvd, disk utility unable repair disk due "b-node tree" error. figured toc damaged in turning unit off during data transfer.

after visiting apple store, suggested use diskwarrior. installed os x on external drive , ran dw 4.4 on 'macintosh hd'. brings me now. has been running on 2 days , reports "speed reduced disk malfunction: 3,287". can, however, still move mouse , number still ticks gradually.

have answers following?
- how long shall allow diskwarrior keep trying rebuild disk? know varies computer, if has experience similar drive interested know.
- signs point permanent damage on drive? should looking replace it? sold faulty drive apple?
- believe diskwarrior able recover disk?

massively grateful thoughts , opinions holding work @ moment.

cheers!

first off when you're running disk warrior, recommend not use computer when it's trying rebuild directories.

how long takes depends on size of volumes. i've used disk warrior rebuild large raid , took day complete process. if it's telling disk has malfunction, hope process completed sucessfully. in meantime purchase new drive , prepare copy important data once rebuild process complete.

if there physical defects current drive, rebuild may fail or may able access of data.

no matter case, if have data recovered, backup , replace old drive new one.

regards disk warrior: it's @ rebuilding bad directories. i've lost many drives due corrupted data or power failures disk warrior rebuild volumes. many of these drives still use everyday after rebuild (the drives tested fine).
