airport extreme base station question

hello, im in college , wifi signal here awful. skyping impossible. i'm wondering if buying airport extreme base station strength of signal?

can see potential problems why might not work? want sure if i'm going spend $200 on it.

it wouldn't. you're not allowed connect unapproved access points campus network.
