Stop Mail prompting at startup

hi there,

sure isn't coincidence. since added calendars of our internet mail accounts ical, mail app on snow leopard macbook pro prompting access mail accounts. annoying because not use mail accounts , logically not need use mail either.

know how stop this?
record:
- not try open mail, of own accord after startup.
- once in prompted window, options "preferences" not accessible.
- reason above , other, option choose "cancel". option hangs app , force quit needed in end, unless quit ical before canceling mail.

right-click mail icon in dock , hover cursor on 'options' uncheck 'open @ login'.
