SSD + HDD in MacBook Pro 5,1: Some Observations

hi all:

wanted share experiences briefly removing optical drive , replacing ssd + hdd combination in mbp 5,1. i've had arrangement on year now. i'll call original hdd bay bay0 , optical bay bay1.

details:
--i using mce tech caddy (in bay1)
--hdd: wdc wd3200bekt-22f3t0 on user "partition" kept
--ssd: intel ssdsa2m080g2gc on system partition kept

decided put wd drive in bay1 , ssd in bay0. however, kept noticing bad clicking sound hdd no matter energy saver conditions regarding hd spin down in os x were. thought, unsubstantiated, power delivered bay1 somehow delivered differently bay0. clicking sound made me think optical drive being damaged. has else noticed this?

i've since moved ssd bay1 , hdd bay0. had 0 problems booting after this. clicking gone, cannot wonder if somehow ssd being damaged whatever making hdd click while in bay1.

finally, after several unsuccessful attempts @ installing linux distro in dual boot config on hdd in bay0 (which had more space), decided try install on ssd in bay1, os x startup disk. worked perfectly, suggesting me in refit+grub chain liked startup partitions on same disk.

again 2 questions remain:
--does have explanation why hdd have been clicking in bay1?
--could ssd in bay1 damaged whatever making hdd click?

i have original stock apple 5400rpm 750gb (hitachi?) drive in bay 1 , corsair force 3 ssd in bay 0.

notice no clicking in bay 0. can't imagine clicking sound come from. maybe mce adapter wasn't screwed down? of t6 screws challenging to. did use 2 screws bolt hard drive adapter?

what's odd not boot pc ssd in bay 1. held down option, there no option boot when ssd in bay 1. moved ssd bay 0, fine.
