okay, know arguments , against defragmenting mac drives, have pretty nastily defragged partitions. have idefrag , worked well, bought drive genius 3 (and helped me fix wife's ipod drive!) figured hey...
thing is, every time run defrag on partition on drive, progress animation while, screen goes black , can't else unless force power off. last night started defrag on 100-gigabyte partition , after 15 minutes went bed. still had animation @ point. @ point macbook still on, black screen , fan whirring away.
this....normal???
ftr, i'm doing on macbook mentioned on side of post. have quad boot (lion, sl, ubuntu, win7) , happens whenever boot either lion or sl , try defrag anything. haven't run defrag imac, though -- new...only had month , it's still blazingly fast, hardly use compared macbook.
