Spinning beach ball

every , still getting beach ball while using illustrator mainly, not had in photoshop yet. not understand why happening, mac has 16gb ram , 2.4ghz i7, check how of ram , cpu being used , max ram has been used in total around 10gb , cpu never goes above maybe 10%.

no idea why happen.. ideas? still keep forgetting save work regularly think i've lost few hours work again.

launch activity monitor , change "my processes" @ top "all processes", click on cpu column heading once or twice, arrow points downward (highest values on top). also, click on system memory tab @ bottom. take screen shot, scroll down see rest of list, take screen shot , post them.
