Program to import video from Panasonic camera

hello guys. have lumix g3 camera. records 1080p in avchd formats, , have been using imovies import videos. imovie great. it's simple , fast, imported videos(.mov format) cannot played on besides quicktime player, not vlc(i 'icod' not supported erorr message). i'm hoping find program can import videos more common video format .avi , .mp4. thanks.
