How can you tell if you have a trojan?

i navigated webpage think had malware on it. got message saying software update needed password. wasn't running software update, shut down. i've been watching activity monitor hawk last few minutes, , nothing seems out of ordinary. no processes aren't identifiable stuff that's supposed there.

i'm running 10.6.8 , latest versions of safari, flash, , java, , of security stuff date. hear anti-virus software more harm good. i'm curious if there should on lookout for, or if i'm freaking out on nothing.

 

if didn't enter administrator password don't have trojan.
