Help! My MBP crashed on system update.

this regarding macbook pro 17" late 2009 edition running osx 10.7.2

yesterday while running routine software update included latest itunes update , osx update, mbp stalled during last steps of installation process (something copying files right locations..). waited hours , hit power button. since mbp restarts stage of apple logo appearing on grey followed spinning cartwheel seems go on forever. no blue/ login screen appears after waited on hour.

fixed disk permissions, repaired hdd using disk utility original install disk still no luck.

tried reinstall macosx presents hdd unavailable. because have 70gb free on 500gig hdd?

best course me mbp , running again, please help!
