Out of warranty replacement?

so, not need (yay), asking out of curiosity/future reference.

@ apple store while dad getting 4s , mentioned dad apple replace phone if broke out of warranty 200 dollars (long in 1 piece , all).

of apple guy said not true, you'd have buy brand new 1 , pay full price new one.

now, know heard new applecare + said going less lenient (which took being nice , replacing phones free when out of warranty whatever reason), have removed policy of "fixing" out of warranty iphones 200 dollar refurbished phone?

 

from understand long not obliterated or super wet they'll give refurbished $200 or so...which hope true...that 1 of main reason got iphone, customer service. goes show cs bring customers
