Jailbroken/unlocked iPhone 3GS on 4.1 and wanting to upgrade

i'm on 4.1 software , 06.15.00 firmware. tried upgrading ios 5 redsnow , made phone go black figuring how out of went recovery mode , appear 1015 message , once fixed , put backup file on every thing how except cydia missing. want update , new features without hassle went through last night phone when trying update.
