OS X Leopard––iBook G4 turns on/off, no boot

i installed 10.5.5 black multi-license disk.
ibook 1.2ghz processor (?) , has 1.5gb upgraded ram.
hd pretty full––only around 5gb unused after install.

booted fine first 4 or 5 times.

either "off"––orange light on charge cord, caps lock light doesn't come on when hit key––or "on"––charge cord light green, caps lock light goes on/off when hit key, power light doing "bright-dark" cycle.

but, there's no boot. is, comes on, doesn't boot. and, once it's on, can turn off power button.

hold power key down start & whirr/clicking it's going boot, screen flickers backlight, no start sound, no apple screen, no spinning gear, & seems going sleep.

have tried: resetting pram, don't know if it's doing b/c no startup chime measure when should hold keys; holding power button open in firmware––no result whatsoever; booting in "safe" mode, again no effect.

whatever do, best result 1 makes whirring/fan blowing/hd clicking sounds, never goes further. alot of i'm doing seems have no effect @ all.

ideas?

 

unless hd replaced smaller 1 should have more 5gb left. there more 1 partition?

hard drive clicking sign of faulty one.

still boot install disk?
