i've been searching , looking around forum haven't found specific answer far. sorry if common question, didn't seem find it, topics on specific cards.
question:
can buy any windows graphics card, fit hardware specification of mac pro 2008? considering correct pci-e port, bus speed , electricity consumption macpro 2008 can provide. then abandon osx completely, , clean instal of windows 7?
card, looking @ recent ones released in 2011 ish, ati , nvidia. price < performance ratio.
will run, without flashing or modifying card in anyway. , mean windows only, no os x installation.
problem / situation:
today 2008 macpro (v3.1) 8800gt nvidia card said goodnight. believe graphics card did, rest of computer fine. crashes half way during boot (tried different resets) , during crash, screen may start flickering orange. bit different reaction when try boot cd, can hear computer loading cd , all, see on screen this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0xy_pkr-pl4
after lot of searching replacement graphics card, hard find solution. can pay lot official card apple isn't preformance, compeered equal price windows card. see windows cards can flashed , stuff work os x, seems bit risky.
want high performance card play games on computer , 3d animation work. 8800gt card have been lowest performance component of computer far, great upgrade.

after finding seller on ebay sells pre-flashed cards decent price, i'll continue stick mac os x instead of windows.
