Clean install of ML, then transfer settings with MA. is that still clean enough?

i have installed copy of ml on clean partition, rather upgraded lion. used migration assistant migrate apps/settings lion partition.

question is, no better upgrading lion in-place? or fall half-way between in-place upgrade of lion , clean install of ml plus fresh install of apps?

depends why doing clean install, if feel there files on lion partition effect performance of ml yes using migration tool bring same files on worried in first place
