Best options for longevity?

i'm considering buying macbook of sort after being burnt twice in bast few years having pc/laptops fixed due major virus invasions. recent virus received on toshiba 2010 destroyed anti-virus software! computer technician took 2 days fix (i grateful have old files , programs kept intact). seems after 2 years on dot, in experience, pcs implode and/or infected, despite anti-virus programs, precautions. father, owned pcs since mid 1980s, seemed have replace them every 2-3 yrs since they'd die out on him.
seriously-- nothing irritates me more having spend more laptops worth them de-bugged! sister still has same macbook pro (?) 2008-- meanwhile i've had replace pcs out of sheer frustration on , on again. i'm sick death of spending money on anti-virus programs, watiting anti-virus programs scan computer, getting annoying windows updates take forever, etc..
ps: not 1 click on "you have 1,000 viruses, click here!" messages, or download oddball files shady websites. seems pc viruses can infect through legitimate web sites. annoyed when read posts people accusing "get infected" of being ignorant. believe create viruses/trojans/worms becoming more sophisticated.
admit relatively unable fix pcs other "system restore" or "ctl+alt+delete end program x". i'm not 1 break open computer , add hard drive, example...
guess question is: best options longevity-wise? macbook of type , have last while-- considering getting ssd because seems have longer shelf-life hdds. know odds going become obsolete soon, still use cds , enjoy watching movie on laptop @ times. gravitating towards macbook pro reason. should avoid refurbished mac if intend on keeping long long time? should buy protection package apple offers, since i'm more familiar pcs?
computer use internet-related, nothing related gaming. "big" program use (that on cd) install rosetta stone program 2010. use cordless headphone set can watch movies online, , question whether i'd have buy different type of headphone if bought mac. guess i'll cross bridge when there....

any mac model last many years if take care of it.
no, refurbs great buy , come apple's full warranty , qualify applecare. there no reason avoid refurb models.
