Mac BOOT LOOP!

i'm formatting imac 21' late/early 2008 (not sure)

formatted os x leopard, original disk came mac.

working perfectly, until installed software updates. it's stuck in constant boot. white apple screen grey apple , grey pinwheel. i've left hours , doesn't boot @ all.

there absolutely no way possibly have access firewire , mac, that's off cards.

yes, have tried every single boot command exists. , i'm 99% sure it's not failed logic board/hdd.

boot commands keyboard using doesnt function under startup of mac, work when mac (used to) boots.

i'm unsure if have access another keyboard, i'll check if can borrow 1 time being. (possibly tommorow)

the first thing i'd try seeing if mac boot in verbose mode. give more information what's going wrong in boot process. isolate cause.

example:
02/08/2012 10:22:30: kernel: reading /dev/disk3s1 failed: i/o error.

if see line (or similar) in verbose boot printout on screen, 1 of external drives preventing mac booting normally. disconnect it, , try again.
